Starburst (originally known as Opal Fruits) is the brand name of a box-shaped,  fruit-flavored soft taffy candy manufactured by The Wrigley Company, a subsidiary of Mars, Incorporated. Starburst has many different varieties such as Tropical, Sour, FaveReds, Very Berry, Superfruit Flavor and Original. The original flavors include: strawberry, lemon, orange, and cherry (changed from the initial lime). The tropical flavors include: strawberry banana, pina colada, cherry kiwi, and mango melon. Starburst also exists in the form of jellybeans, lollipops, gummies, hard candy, candy canes, candy corn, popsicles, gum, and lip gloss.

The brand was introduced by Mars in the UK in 1960, named by Peter Phillips (known as Peter Pfeffer at the time), the winner of a competition that won him £5, as Opal Fruits. The four original flavours were strawberry, lemon, orange, and lime. Opal Fruits were introduced in the United States in 1967 as M&M's Fruit Chewies and later, in the late 1960s, Starburst. Originally, Starburst came in the same flavours as Opal Fruits. Subsequently, its first variant, Sunshine Flavors, was released and was later renamed "Tropical Opal Fruits". In Europe, lemon and lime were combined to become "Lemon and Lime" to make room for a blackcurrant flavour.

Skittles is a brand of fruit-flavoured sweets, currently produced and marketed by the Wrigley Company, a division of Mars, Inc..Skittles consist of hard sugar shells imprinted with the letter "S". The interior consists mainly of sugar, corn syrup, and hydrogenated palm kernel oil along with fruit juice, citric acid, and natural and artificial flavors. The confectionery has been sold in a variety of flavor collections, such as Tropical, Wild Berry, Dessert and Sour.

Skittles are produced in a wide variety of flavours and colours, including sour varieties. Skittles has hinted at new flavour releases on its Facebook page, using such statuses as "Locking myself in the Rainbow kitchen until I see some results!" A 2011 posting contained confirmation of a new flavor: "Putting the last touches on a new Skittles flavor. Tweak the Rainbow." In 2013, Skittles replaced the lime-flavoured Skittles with green apple, causing a backlash from some consumers. The lime became part of their Darkside packets.

Skittles were first made commercially in 1974 by a British company. They were first introduced in North America in 1979 as an import confectionery. In 1982, domestic production of Skittles began in the United States.
